NEW featured artist - Anne Pearce

My Own Kind

Anne Pearce

Anne Pearce's paintings always start with random experiments in colour, texture or composition.  Seldom does this lead easily into a successful piece but rather more often into a lengthy battle towards resolution.  What germinates as one idea can mature into another that has absolutely no likeness to its embryonic beginnings.  But she always enjoys the process of getting there.

Pearce works primarily in acrylic which is fast drying and adapts well to repeated layering, allowing her a great deal of flexibility.  Using a subdued palette, a tension usually develops between the starkness of solid blocks of colour and layered areas of texture and line.  Anne Pearce's work is simultaneously organic and graphic.  She is a firm believer in less is more.

Please pop in the store from now until the end of March to view the rest of Anne Pearce's artwork.

Anne is a woman of many talents and we also carry a line of handmade cards for all occasions.

In the course of day to day life Anne has always collected objects that for some reason intrigue her, cast-offs of mother nature and our human society.  These objects become the starting points for formal compositions using unusual papers, paint, wires, fibres, sewing lines and the unexpected.  With a tendency towards hard edges and simple blocks of colour, her work often leans towards the minimal.  She strives to transform these seemingly banal discards into small visual poems that can be deceptively simple, pleasingly expressive or decidely offbeat.

Her cards are 5 5/8 inches square, blank inside, and often considered suitable for framing.  Following are a few samples of her art cards, we have many more different designs in store.
